Digital Signage Software Linux Open Source
This may be a bit ambitious so I will try to be as detailed as possible. There are seven separate locations where all-in-one computers are going to be set up as kiosks. The end-game is to have current events and other information streamed to these seven computers. We previously considered Four Winds Interactive prior to my arrival within the department but declined to use them because the project became less of a priority. Now that we have the opportunity to approach this project again, I want to utilize all the latest technology available while potentially saving the school thousands of dollars in the process.
Windows-based applications would be best but Linux-based is absolutely a viable option. The alternative would have to be completely editable once set up. I would like it to be fully customizable but that is not a main factor. Additionally, it would have to be pretty much dummy proof. Essentially, I am going to set up the process and confirm it is working perfectly and then train individuals to use it properly. If the computers are set up with Windows, I would like to be able to utilize Access Control mode under Windows 8.1 so the application would have to be capable with that. Most, if not all, of the computers will utilize a secured wireless connection.
Xibo digital signage software—a slick, sophisticated Web application—runs on your Linux, Mac, or Windows server. It's a free download with no limitations—you get full functionality whether or not you feed the tip jar.
I would like the ability to set up the console (or whatever term the application uses) on a remote server. This will allow me (or whoever) the convenience of one central place to manage all seven installations. Most importantly, no matter what OS the application runs off of, it has to be secure. As part of the testing phase, I have recruited a couple of IS colleagues to try and hack the system once it's set up. We do not need Fort Knox but the safety and the privacy of the school is paramount. I know this is a lot of information but I am sure I may have missed something.
Please ask any questions you may have. Any suggestions and comments are appreciated.
Edited May 8, 2014 at 13:39 UTC. Hello, I am doing a project that involves placing HD TV screens on various locations.
The screens will display some videos or news on one third (top left) of the screen and will display ads (top right) from advertisers on one third of the screen. The bottom will have a horizontal ticker displaying news ticker, weather or custom text message. We need templates where we can plugin our content, and a cloud solution to upload/update the content on regular basis.
Any free or low cost solution? We have some good solutions for static images. But need a solution where we can plug-in RSS, MP4s, youtube, URL and of course static images. Also need to specify a schedule, for example, if an ad will display for 5 secs, 10 secs or 30 secs in the ad loop.
